Paws
This was one of my major projects that was completed during my UI Design and UX Research, seven part course work with Google under the Grow with Google learning program. We were told to take a random prompt and create an app out of it. My initial prompt was for a sign-up flow only but the app continues to grow as I learn new techniques and apply them to this project. The goal is to have a homepage and a 'Find a Dog Playdate' flow included.

Goal
Create a sign-up flow for a dog play date application
Time
December 2022 - In Progress
Why
During my 7 part course with Google on UI/UX Design and Research, I was tasked with taking a random prompt and creating a complete user centred solution for that prompt. The goal was to create the sign-up page to work as an application that can be downloaded on both IOS and Android app stores.

It was found that most users stop using apps in the first few minutes of downloading them. This is due to either bad UI design or confusing initial setup. The solution presents a neat and concise sign-up form that guides end users through each step and allows for them effortlessly sign-up for the application.
User Research and Stories and Goals

Research Analysis
Ideation
During the user identity stage a common trend of poor user interface design leading to the immediate stoppage of use of the app was found. Users wanted to download the app and get right into using it without having to feel like they had to learn how to use the app. The app needed to be intuitive and simple to use whilst still providing the users with what they wanted.
A sign-up form with clearly defined labels and form fill sections was used to solve this issue. Ideas such as having clearly defined sections where users needed to enter their information or providing users with encouragement text or a clear indication of how far along the sign-up process they are, were all ideas that came to mind. Similarly, the ability to sign-up with their Google, Facebook or Twitter account also helped with the barrier of entry into the app.

Potential Next Steps
The end solution was described as easy to use and very straightforward, even with the less experienced users who tested the product.

Potential next steps include:
-
Begin designs for the Homepage and Find a Dog features
-
Revision of font and font colour choices to improve readability
Conclusion
I really enjoyed designing this sign-up flow for the app I've named Paws. I enjoyed it so much that I'm revisiting the app to further improve on it and develop more screens and flows to see what I can come up with after expanding on my skillset.

During this project, I learnt that sometimes less is more. I found that sign-up forms didn't need to be flashy or overbearing on the user, instead, users prefer a simple, easy on the eyes flow that allows them to get to the end without having to ask any questions. With each project I undertake, new skills are acquired and I can't wait to see what else I can learn with future projects.
